HIAC™
Acrylic Concrete Sealer (VOC-Compliant)

DESCRIPTION
HIAC acrylic concrete sealer is an acrylic co-polymer solution that dries to a clear, colourless, abrasion-resistant film. It is highly resistant to stains, acid, oil, grease, most industrial chemicals, and de-icing salts, and will not yellow the concrete. HIAC meets the 400 g/L VOC limit for waterproofing sealers for concrete or masonry.

USES
HIAC is used for protection of old or new concrete from weather, chemical attack, staining, and dusting. HIAC imparts a medium-to-high sheen, dependent upon the number of coats applied, which enhances the natural concrete colour.

Suitable applications include concrete driveways, patios, exposed aggregate, and all exterior cementitious surfaces.

HIAC may be applied over CS-309™ curing and sealing compound from W. R. MEADOWS after the concrete has cured at least seven days to give a highly effective curing and sealing system.

HIAC may be re-applied as traffic patterns appear.

For interior applications, specify and apply VOCOMP®-20, VOCOMP-25, or VOCOMP-30 curing and sealing compound or DECRA-SEAL™ W/B from W. R. MEADOWS.

FEATURES/BENEFITS

  • Permeable film allows moisture in cured concrete to evaporate.
  • High acrylic content for positive weatherproofing, stainproofing, and dustproofing qualities.
  • High resistance to oil, grease, de-icing salts; hydrochloric, acetic, and sulphuric acids; caustic sodas and most industrial chemicals and aliphatic solvents.
  • High or medium sheen.
  • Quick drying.
  • Floors sealed with HIAC can later be painted (consult reputable paint manufacturer for compatibility) or covered with resilient flooring, if desired.

PACKAGING
3.78 litre pails, 18.9 litre pails, 205 litre drums

COVERAGE
7.35 – 14.7 m² per litre (300 – 600 ft.²/U.S. gallon)
Coverage may vary due to porosity and condition of the concrete.

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Complies with Canada VOC Concentration Limits for Architectural Coatings Regulations

APPLICATION
Surface Preparation … Concrete must be clean and dry prior to HIAC application. Remove stains and discolourations. New concrete should be properly cured for a minimum of seven days prior to HIAC application. (CS-309 is compatible.)

Application Method … Apply by spray, brush, or lamb’s wool applicator in a uniform film. For greater sheen, apply additional coats after preceding coat has dried. Avoid over application and excessive build-up.

Avoid puddling in low areas. Restrict foot traffic for at least four hours. Twelve hours is preferable.

HIAC should not be applied during high temperature conditions in direct sunlight. These conditions cause rapid evaporation, which does not allow the film to form properly. Under these conditions, the film may peel, bubble, and/or turn white (blush).

HIAC should not be applied to concrete exposed to excessive moisture. Entrapped moisture in a solvent-based sealer may cause the film to peel and/or turn white (blush).

Note: In cases when HIAC is applied to existing concrete surfaces (more than 28 days old), the variations in coloration of the sands and aggregate present in the existing surface may be enhanced causing the surface to appear discoloured.

Drying Time … HIAC dries quickly. Drying times may be extended depending on application rate, temperature, humidity, and project conditions. Restrict foot traffic for at least four hours. Twelve hours is preferable.

Cleanup … Clean tools after use with a solvent such as SEALTIGHT SOLVENT, xylol, or toluol.

PRECAUTIONS
For industrial use only. Apply without dilution or thinning VOC content of the product. FOR EXTERIOR APPLICATION ONLY. Surfaces treated with HIAC may become slippery under certain conditions. HIAC should not be applied during high temperature conditions in direct sunlight. These conditions cause rapid evaporation, which does not allow the film to form properly. Under these conditions, the film may peel, bubble and/or turn white (blush).

Do not apply HIAC if the temperature of the concrete is below 4º C (40º F). HIAC may be used on coloured concrete, but mottling may occur. Do not use on dense or non-porous surfaces, i.e. brick, stone, etc.

Concrete containing calcium chloride will remain dark longer when treated with HIAC. Concrete floors properly cured with HIAC meet section 8.9 “Adhesion of Tile Cements” of ASTM C 1315. For other specifications, secure the approval of the paint or resilient flooring manufacturer before applying HIAC. The specifier and used shall determine the suitability of product for specific applications and assume all responsibility in connection therewith

HIAC is a membrane-forming sealer. All membrane-forming sealers may darken concrete or magnify imperfections caused by variations in the porosity and/or finishing of the concrete.

HEALTH AND SAFETY
Contains solvent. Use with adequate ventilation and avoid prolonged breathing of vapours that may cause dizziness or suffocation. Avoid contact with skin and/or eyes. See product label and Material Safety Data Sheet for additional information. Read and follow all instructions and precautions.

Harmful or fatal if swallowed.
