Project: Nevada Power - Reid
Gardner Station
Location: Las Vegas, Nevada
Contractor: FHI Plant Services, Inc.
Products: MEADOW-CRETE GPS
W. R. MEADOWS and
the Nevada Power on-staff engineers worked closely to choose the appropriate
products and repair methodologies to ensure the long-term rehabilitation
of the Reid-Gardner Station. The concrete repairs included the successful
application of 5,300 bags of MEADOW-CRETE GPS over two repair phases.
The Reid-Gardner
Generating Station consists of four base-load coal-fired units and is
located 52 miles northeast of Las Vegas. The first unit went online
in 1965 and the additional units were placed in service during 1968,
1976 and 1983.

| Due
to the varying and severe PH environment, which ranges from 2 –
14 at any given time, the station has ongoing deterioration of the existing
concrete. They needed a material that would be stable in this environment.
MEADOW-CRETE GPS was the answer.
The areas of the
station that have been repaired to date include water troughs, horizontal
areas below stacks and vertical substrates.
In addition to
the MEADOW-CRETE GPS, Nevada Power will be using REZI-WELD™ TYPE
III DOT to seal concrete at the station with a broadcast of sand or
emery. Again, the engineer was seeking a material that will be stable
in the harsh PH environment.
