1240-WHITE
Water-Based, Resin-Based Concrete Curing Compound

Description
1240-WHITE water-based, white-pigmented curing compound is a resin-based dispersion with selected white pigments. When properly applied, the compound provides a nearly impermeable film, which optimizes water retention. The white pigment reflects sunlight to help keep the concrete surface cooler and to help prevent excessive heat build-up.

1240-WHITE meets the maximum VOC content limits of 350 g/L for concrete curing compounds as required by the U.S. EPA Architectural Coatings Rule.

USES
1240-WHITE is ideal for application on exterior, horizontal surfaces, such as highways, as well as airport, street and curb paving. The product offers excellent curing properties when protection from the sun’s heat is desired.

SPECIFICATIONS
  • Texas Highway Department Item 526
  • TxDOT Departmental Materials Specification DMS-4650 (formerly DMS-8120)
  • ASTM C 309, Type 2, Class B
  • AASHTO M 148, Type 2, Class B
  • F.A.A. Item P-610-2.11(e)

FEATURES/BENEFITS
  • When properly applied, provides a nearly impermeable film that optimizes water retention.
  • Protects by reflecting sunlight to keep the concrete surface cooler and prevent excessive heat build-up, which can cause thermal cracking.
  • Furnished as a ready-to-use, true water-based compound.
  • Produces hard, dense concrete … minimizes hair checking, thermal cracking, dusting and other defects.
  • Enhances the functional capabilities of concrete by “sealing in” the performance assets of strength and long life.
  • Offers a compressive strength significantly greater than improperly cured concrete.
  • Increases tensile strength for greater resistance to cracking and surface crazing.
  • Improves abrasion resistance and minimizes corrosive action of salts and chemicals … minimizes shrinkage.
  • Applies quickly and easily with conventional commercial spray equipment.
  • VOC compliant.

PACKAGING
5 Gallon (18.93 L) Pails
55 Gallon (208.20 L) Drums
275 Gallon (1040.99 L) Totes

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Drying Time:
Typically dries in 1-2 hours. Drying times may be extended, depending on application rate, temperature, humidity and project conditions. Restrict foot traffic until completely dry.

Flash Point: Greater than 200° F

APPLICATION
Preparation … Application equipment must be clean, dry and free of any previously used materials.

Mixing … Any settling or separation in the container must be re-dispersed with gentle agitation prior to use. CAUTION: TO AVOID FOAMING, DO NOT MIX EXCESSIVELY.

Application Method … Spray on in one even coat with a hand or power sprayer as soon as the surface water disappears from horizontal concrete surfaces. On vertical surfaces, spray on promptly after the forms are removed. Use a Chapin 5797 or equivalent spray nozzle that produces a flow of½ gallon (1.89 L) per minute under 40 psi (0.276 MPa) of pressure.

Coverage … Approximately 200 ft.²/gal. (4.91 m²/L)

Cleanup … Prior to drying, application equipment can be easily cleaned with soap and water. Once dried, use mineral spirits or other suitable petroleum solvent.

NOTE: Proper application is the responsibility of the user. Field visits or contact with W. R. MEADOWS personnel/representatives are for the purpose of technical recommendations only and are not for supervising or providing quality control on the jobsite.

PRECAUTIONS
KEEP FROM FREEZING. Do not apply when temperature of the air or concrete is less than 40° F (4° C). DO NOT ADD OR DILUTE WITH ANY OTHER COMPOUNDS. Do not use on patios, sidewalks or other areas where there is typically no wheel traffic to abrade the white film surface. Not recommended for use on residential driveways. Read and follow all application and MSDS information.

HEALTH AND SAFETY
Direct contact may result in mild irritation. Refer to Material Safety Data for complete health and safety information.

SHELF LIFE (Typical)
One year in unopened container.
