MEL-PRIME
Water-Base Primer

DESCRIPTION
MEL-PRIME Water-Base Primer is a ready-to-use priming compound specifically formulated with polymers in a true water-base emulsion. MEL-PRIME W/B appears bright pink in the container and dries to a transparent finish with a "reddish" sheen. MEL-PRIME W/B meets maximum VOC content limits of 350 g/L for Primers and Undercoaters as required by the U.S. EPA Architectural Coatings Rule.

USES
Apply MEL-PRIME Water-Base Primer to simultaneously prepare and dustproof new and existing, vertical and horizontal concrete in one easy, economical operation. Use MEL-PRIME W/B to prime all concrete surfaces to receive applications of MEL-DEK
, MEL-GARD®, MEL-ROL®, and/or AIR-SHIELD Waterproofing Membranes from W. R. MEADOWS.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS

  • Ready-to-use...no mixing or dilution required
  • Non-combustible; flash point greater than 210ºF
  • Contains fugitive dye for easy visual confirmation of coverage
  • Ideal for priming new or existing, horizontal or vertical, interior or exterior concrete surfaces
  • VOC-compliant...meets the U.S. EPA Architectural Coatings Rule requirements

Packaging
1 gallon (3.79 liter) Cans
5 gallon (18.93 liter) Pails

Coverage
250 to 350 sq. ft./gal. (6.14 to 8.59 sq m/L)

APPLICATION
Surface Preparation
...Concrete should be cured at least 72 hours, be clean, dry, smooth and free of all voids. Repair spalled areas, fill all voids and remove sharp protrusions. For additional surface preparation requirements, see instructions for applying MEL-DEK, MEL-GARD, MEL-ROL, and/or AIR-SHIELD Waterproofing Membranes.

Method of Application...Apply MEL-PRIME W/B in fair weather when the surface and air temperatures are 40ºF (4ºC) and rising. Apply with a sprayer, roller or brush at a coverage rate of 250 to 350 sq. ft./gal. (6.14 to 8.59 sq. m/L). Prime only the area to be covered with the waterproofing membrane during the working day. Areas not covered with a membrane in 24 hours must be re-primed. NOTE: Metal surfaces do not require priming, however, they must be clean, dry and free of loose paint, rust or other contaminants.

Drying Time...Dries in approximately one hour, depending on temperature and application rate. Must be tacky to the touch before covering. If the work area is very dusty, apply membrane as soon as possible after MEL-PRIME W/B is dry.

CLEAN-UP
Application equipment may be cleaned with soap and water before MEL-PRIME W/B dries. Once dry, equipment may be cleaned with mineral spirits.

PRECAUTIONS
Do not apply MEL-PRIME Water-Base Primer when rain is imminent, on frozen or frost covered surfaces, or when surface and air temperatures are below 40ºF (4ºC). Avoid allowing MEL-PRIME W/B to puddle – this will lengthen drying time. Do not dilute, use "as is". KEEP FROM FREEZING.
