Non-Chloride Concrete Set Accelerator
HYDRASET-FREE non-chloride concrete set accelerator is a ready-to-use, liquid admixture. It accelerates initial setting time one to three times faster than normal for mortar and concrete.
HYDRASET-FREE improves workability and strength while it hastens the hydration of cement. It makes the mix easier to place and speeds construction by shortening the initial set and curing time. Labour and time are saved, because forms and other protection can be removed earlier and finishing can be initiated. HYDRASET-FREE should not be limited to use during months when temperatures are in the -7° to 7°C range. Increased workability and earlier strength are also obtained when temperatures are in the 10° to 18° C range, because any time the temperature drops below 21° C, there is a reduction in the rate of cement hydration. During cold and hot weather applications, follow ACI 305 & 306 recommendations.
HYDRASET-FREE is recommended for use during cool and cold weather to accelerate the set time and reduce the risk of frozen mortar and concrete mixes. However, HYDRASET-FREE can be used any time you want to accelerate the set time to decrease turnaround time. HYDRASET-FREE will also provide limited protection to reinforcing steel in concrete structures.
- Accelerates initial set time one to three times faster than normal for concrete and mortar.
- Aids in strength development.
- Speed up hydration of cement.
- Non-chloride formula.
- Increases workability of concrete or mortar.
- Speeds construction due to reduced setting and curing time.
- Allows earlier removal of concrete forms or other protection.
- Permits earlier finishing.
- VOC compliant.

HYDRASET-FREE is added directly to the mix water. Reduce the amount of water proportionally to compensate for the liquid addition. For masonry mortar, 1.89 litres (2 U.S. quarts) of HYDRASET-FREE for each 42.73 kg (94 lb.) bag of cement should be used. For mortar cements that are 50% Portland cement and 50% lime, one-half the amount, or 950 mL (1 U.S. quart) of HYDRASET-FREE is required.
For concrete, the following quantities are recommended:
|TEMPERATURE RANGE||SUGGESTED QUANTITY OF HYDRASET-FREE for each 42.73 kg (94 lb.) bag of cement (metric/Imperial)|
|Above 21° C||0.47 L (1 pt.)|
|21°C to 0° C||0.95 L (1 qt.)|
|0° C to -4° C||0.95 to 1.42 L (1 – 1.25 qt.)|
|-4°C to -7° C||1.89 L (2 qt.)|
HYDRASET-FREE affects only the Portland cement portion of the mix and is not an anti-freeze for the water portion. Protect the cement-based material from freezing per American Concrete Institute (ACI) 306. HYDRASET-FREE has no effect on straight lime mortars and should not be used with oxychloride stuccos. Use HYDRASET-FREE directly from the factory-sealed container; do not dilute. Test mix should be conducted before full application. Avoid direct contact. Ingestion may cause moderate to severe irritation of the digestive tract. Read and follow complete application information and precautions on container, prior to use. Consult Safety Data Sheet for complete health and safety information.
