MEADOW-PATCH® SMOOTH-GRADE
One-Component, Polymer-Modified, Concrete Surface Finisher
DESCRIPTION
MEADOW-PATCH SMOOTH-GRADE is a single-component, polymer-modified, cement-based, sands-free material used for achieving an ultra-smooth finish on precast, cast-in-place, tilt-up or other unfinished concrete surfaces. This product offers superior adhesion and durability. It is not a vapor barrier, contains no added gypsum, has excellent workability for trowel application, and has an extended pot life of up to 45 minutes, which provides enhanced working time.
USES
MEADOW-PATCH SMOOTH-GRADE is versatile, easy to mix and apply, with its smooth consistency and extended working time, is an excellent product for filling imperfections in newly placed or existing concrete surfaces. MEADOW-PATCH SMOOTH-GRADE is an ideal choice for smoothing rough surfaces, repairing honeycombs, and dressing up air voids, bug holes, or other small surface defects. When mixed, its creamy consistency provides an excellent concrete wash, parging, sacking material for both new and existing concrete walls, precast concrete elements, cast-in-place concrete, or existing concrete or block.
MEADOW-PATCH SMOOTH-GRADE may be applied up to 1/8″ (25.4 mm) thick for resurfacing and smoothing, but can also be placed up to ½” (12.7 mm) thick in a single application vertically to fill in minor surface defects. Because of its excellent bond and freeze-thaw resistance, MEADOW-PATCH SMOOTH-GRADE may be used for interior and/or exterior applications: below-, above- or on-grade. MEADOW-PATCH SMOOTH-GRADE is also designed to smooth and level minor surface defects or elevations on concrete slabs prior to installation of a floor covering.

APPLICATION
Surface Preparation … Prepare concrete substrate in accordance with ICRI Technical Guideline #310.2R-2013: Selecting and Specifying Concrete Surface Preparation for Sealers, Coatings, Polymer Overlays, and Concrete Repair. Mechanically roughen or high pressure water-jet existing concrete substrate to a minimum concrete surface profile of CSP-2 or higher, depending on substrate condition. Remove all unsound concrete and provide a profiled, porous surface. Substrate must be structurally sound, dust-free, and free of grease, oil, dirt, curing compounds, release agents, or any other surface or penetrated contaminants that will adversely affect bond. Substrate must be saturated, surface dry (SSD) and free of standing water.
Mixing … Mix in a clean vessel using a variable-speed drill with a Jiffy type mixer at 400 – 600 rpm. Product may be mixed by hand. Use 5.2 – 6.1 L (11 – 13 pints) of clean water per bag of MEADOW-PATCH SMOOTH-GRADE. Slowly add powder and mix to desired consistency, using up to additional pint (0.47 L) of clean water, only as needed. Use of excessive water will reduce strength, causes crazing and may cause dusting under rapid drying conditions. Mix for three minutes or until lump-free consistency is obtained. Do not over-mix. The properly mixed product should have the consistency of a light, creamy, clay-like material that is easily worked, but should not be free-flowing. Mix only complete bags. Do not mix more material than can be placed and finished in 45 minutes at 23° C.
Increased durability, hardness and bond can be achieved by replacing one-half of the mixing water with ACRY-LOK™ from W. R. MEADOWS. This will also aid in the curing process during rapid drying conditions.
Placement … Minimum ambient and surface temperature must be 5° C and rising at the time of application. Substrate must be SSD and free of standing water.
Apply MEADOW-PATCH SMOOTH-GRADE by compacting, scrubbing, or forcing the material well against the properly prepared substrate by brush or trowel onto the substrate, forcing the material into all pores and voids. Finish surface with steel or wood trowel or sponge float. Never re-temper.
Follow American Concrete Institute (ACI) 305 “Standard on Hot Weather Concreting” or ACI 306 “Standard on Cold Weather Concreting” when applicable.
Curing … Cure in accordance with ACI 308 or use a suitable water-based curing compound from W. R. MEADOWS. Do not use solvent-based curing compounds. When conditions exist for early water loss, such as, but not limited to, high temperature (32˚ C), high winds, direct sun, low humidity, use a fog curing system.
PRECAUTIONS
Do not apply below 5° C or when rain is imminent. Do not allow the product to freeze until fully cured. MEADOW-PATCH SMOOTH-GRADE shall not be used without cover of a standard flooring system. Do not bridge moving cracks. Extend existing joints through MEADOW-PATCH SMOOTH-GRADE. Do not add any admixtures. Exceeding liquid requirements shall result in reduced physical properties. Realize that set time will decrease as the product, air, substrate, and mixing liquid temperature increases and will be increased as the temperature decreases. Featheredging may result in reduced durability and performance. Not designed for steel-wheel or casting-type exposure. Protect from conditions that may cause early water loss: high winds, low humidity, high temperature, direct sunlight. Early water loss is amplified in thin and/or small area applications. Failure to follow ACI concreting practices and standard industry practices will result in decreased material performance.
