VOCOMP®-20
Water-Based, Acrylic, Concrete Curing and Sealing Compound
DESCRIPTION
VOCOMP-20 water-based acrylic curing and sealing compound is formulated using special acrylic polymers in a true water-based carrier. Once properly applied, VOCOMP-20 provides a durable film for efficient moisture retention. VOCOMP-20 appears milky white in the container and, when first applied, leaves a bluish cast on the concrete for easy visual confirmation of coverage. VOCOMP-20 dries clear to provide a transparent sheen finish. The sheen can be controlled by the number of coats applied. VOCOMP-20 resists yellowing from ultraviolet exposure and provides a durable, long-lasting finish that offers improved resistance to chemicals, petroleum, and abrasives.
VOCOMP-20 may help minimize hair-checking, premature cracking, dusting, and spalling. However, good concrete and good concreting practices should be used, as VOCOMP-20 is not a cure-all for improperly designed, placed, and/or finished concrete. Refer to American Concrete Institute (ACI) 201, Guide for Durable Concrete.
USES
VOCOMP-20 water-based acrylic curing and sealing compound may be quickly and easily applied to simultaneously cure and/or seal new interior or exterior as well as vertical or horizontal concrete surfaces. It is ideal for application on sidewalks, basement and garage floors, patios, driveways, and parking areas. VOCOMP-20 dries very quickly to protect and enhance the natural appearance of concrete.
FEATURES/BENEFITS
- Permeable film allows moisture in cured concrete to evaporate.
- Ready-to-use, non-yellowing, water-based compound that cures and/or seals concrete in one quick and easy application.
- Minimizes hair-checking, premature cracking, dusting, and spalling.
- Dries quickly on new concrete to a durable, clear sheen finish that protects and enhances the natural appearance of concrete.
- Ideal for application on interior, exterior, horizontal, and vertical concrete surfaces.
- Tough, durable finish offers improved resistance to chemicals and wear.

COVERAGE/APPLICATION RATE
Use | m2/L | ft.2/gal. |
Curing freshly placed concrete* | 4.9 | 200 |
Sealing existing concrete | 7.4 – 9.8 | 300 – 400 |
Coverage is approximate and may vary depending on surface finish/texture, concrete condition, climatic conditions, etc. Always apply to a test area first to determine actual coverage rate before full-scale application.
*For a broomed finish, a second application is recommended to meet ASTM C309 and AASHTO M 148 water-retention specifications.
SHELF LIFE
When stored indoors in original, unopened containers at temperatures between 4° – 32° C, optimum performance and best use is obtained within one year of date of manufacture.

APPLICATION
Surface Preparation … Old Concrete: Surface preparation is extremely important. Concrete must always be clean and dry, with all stains, oil, grease, dust, and dirt removed prior to application. If not, they will be amplified by the transparent sheen finish. CAUTION: If a liquid compound other than VOCOMP-20, VOCOMP-25, or VOCOMP-30 has been used, do not apply VOCOMP-20 until all traces of the compound have been completely removed and the surface is clean and dry. New Concrete: Apply VOCOMP-20 when the surface water has disappeared and the concrete surface will not be marred by walking workmen.
Mixing … For optimum performance, gentle mixing or agitation is recommended. CAUTION: TO AVOID FOAMING, DO NOT MIX EXCESSIVELY.
Application Method … An industrial sprayer, such as a Chapin 1949, with a spray nozzle that produces a flow of 0.379 LPM (0.1 GPM) under 0.276 MPa of pressure (or equivalent) is recommended. VOCOMP-20 should be sprayed on in a fine, fog pattern, without spurts and dribbles, to form a thin, continuous film. AVOID PUDDLING in low areas. If puddles occur, brush or roll them out. VOCOMP-20 can also be applied using a lint-free roller or lambs wool applicator. Care should be taken to maintain a wet-edge during application to prevent roller marks in the dried film. Always perform a small mockup application to determine proper coverage rate prior to full-scale application.
For added protection and a greater sheen on the concrete, an additional coat of VOCOMP-20, VOCOMP-25, or VOCOMP-30 may be applied after the first coat of VOCOMP-20 has thoroughly dried.
Dense Surface Application … Apply a single coat only. Use enough material to uniformly coat the surface without creating drips, puddles, or rundowns. DO NOT OVER APPLY. When applying on densely troweled concrete finishes, such as industrial floors, garage floors, etc., perform a small mockup application to determine proper application rate prior to full-scale application.
Drying Time … VOCOMP-20 dries quickly. Drying times may be extended, depending on application rate, temperature, humidity, and project conditions. Restrict foot traffic for at least four hours. Twelve hours is preferable.
Cleanup … While VOCOMP-20 is still wet, equipment may be easily cleaned up with soap and water. Once dried, the material may be removed with a solvent, such as xylene, toluene, or SEALTIGHT® SOLVENT from W. R. MEADOWS
PRECAUTIONS
KEEP FROM FREEZING. DO NOT OVER APPLY. Do not apply VOCOMP-20 when air, material and/or surface temperatures are expected to fall below 4º C within four hours of completed application. Do not allow the applied VOCOMP-20 coating to freeze for 24 hours. Do not mix or dilute with any other products or liquids. VOCOMP-20 may be applied to colored concrete, but mottling may occur. Do not use on dense or non-porous surfaces, i.e., brick, stone, etc. Concrete floors properly cured with VOCOMP-20 meet the requirements of ASTM C1315: Section 8.8 Adhesion. For any alternate specifications or requirements, secure the approval of the manufacturer of any paint, coating, carpet, adhesive, resilient flooring, floor topping, etc. (any type/composition of subsequent floor treatment) that will be applied over VOCOMP-20. Obtain this approval before applying their product over concrete previously cured with VOCOMP-20. The specifier and user shall determine the suitability and assume all responsibilities in connection therewith. In areas intended for heavy forklift traffic, consider MED-CURE™ and/or the LIQUI-HARD® products from W. R. MEADOWS.
