At W. R. MEADOWS, we believe that being a leader in the construction industry means more than offering high-performance products, it means advancing the entire industry through education, transparency, and environmental stewardship. That belief is at the heart of our newest initiative: the release of our first round of third-party verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), now available for several of our most widely used product lines.
This exciting milestone not only marks progress in our long-term sustainability efforts—it also reflects our deep commitment to supporting our distributor partners and the industry at large through better knowledge and more informed decision-making.
WHAT ARE EPDs & WHY DO THEY MATTER?
Environmental Product Declarations are comprehensive documents that quantify the environmental impact of a product throughout its entire lifecycle. Developed using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology, these third-party verified reports assess a product’s effect on global warming potential, energy use, water consumption, and more. Simply put, an EPD turns environmental impact into concrete data - and that data is now available for many of our top solutions.
In a market increasingly shaped by green building standards, EPDs provide a clear and trusted path toward sustainability goals. Architects, engineers, and procurement teams use EPDs to evaluate products that align with certifications like LEED, Green Globes, BREEAM, and others. For our distributor partners, this means added value and differentiation; products with EPDs help win bids, support environmentally conscious clients, and meet growing regulatory requirements.
Built with Experts, Backed by Science
To ensure the highest level of credibility and consistency, we partnered with Sustainable Minds, a trusted program operator and LCA provider with deep expertise in product transparency. Their rigorous process, supported by third-party verification from the Athena Institute, ensures each EPD meets internationally recognized standards, including ISO 14025 and EN 15804.
Using Sustainable Minds’ software and guidance, we developed EPDs for a range of high-performance W. R. MEADOWS products, including air barriers, waterproofing membranes, primers, and concrete curing compounds. We also extended this commitment to include building materials from our subsidiary, BLUE RIDGE FIBERBOARD.
By offering these verified EPDs, we’re giving specifiers and builders the tools they need to make environmentally responsible choices without compromising on performance.
A Transparent Commitment
“Providing product transparency through EPDs not only helps our customers meet their sustainability goals; it’s the right thing to do,” said Kimberly Lombardozzi, Sustainability Manager at W. R. MEADOWS. “We believe in making environmentally responsible decisions and giving our customers the information they need to do the same. These EPDs are just the beginning, and we look forward to expanding this initiative.”
For nearly a century, we’ve built our reputation not only on product quality, but on long-standing relationships and a culture of continuous learning. Releasing these EPDs is another way we’re investing in our partners - helping you stay ahead of industry trends, meet the demands of your clients, and grow your business in a rapidly evolving construction landscape.
