
JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a talented and reliable Lead Maintenance Technician to join our successful maintenance team. In this position, the primary responsibility is to support production by preserving the condition and functionality of our production equipment. The candidate must possess expert mechanical and electrical skills for assembly, welding, fabrication, and electrical troubleshooting and repairs.
Requirements include, but are not limited to, extensive knowledge and experience in preventive maintenance, spare parts inventory, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of motors, pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, valves, bearings, pulleys, sprockets, and other mechanical elements.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter requiring little to no supervision. To excel in this position, you must be a problem-solver with exceptional attention to detail, a sense of urgency, service orientation, and organizational skills. Able to work from drawings, verbal instructions, or sketches, and apply own ideas in design. Personal communication skills and the ability to work with a variety of personalities as a team are essential.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform as the lead troubleshooting technician for equipment, mechanical, and electrical challenges.
- Test electrical equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage, and resistance.
- Evaluate, disassemble, reassemble, and repair mechanical components as well as install new equipment, pumps, gearboxes, chains, sprockets, conveyors, etc.
- Maintain, repair, install, and test transformers, breaker panels, regulators, and other electrical infrastructure components.
- Maintain, repair, test, and install electrical motors, variable frequency drives, generators, hydraulic, and pneumatic electrical control systems.
- Prepare and set up machinery for scheduled production runs.
- Communicate and collaborate closely with the Production Department to achieve set goals for the area.
- Make preventive maintenance checks and inspections of assigned equipment, complete required paperwork, report findings to supervisor, and follow up as needed.
- Identify critical spare parts and keep appropriate inventory.
- Notify supervisor and plant manager of recurring equipment malfunctions, corrective action taken, and of quality problems, or supplies needed.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interface with all production departments, always with a service attitude in mind.
- Interface with outside contractors to complete projects outside of normal maintenance requirements.
- Participate in the “Mechanic on Call” Program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent hands-on mechanical skills.
- Solid understanding of powertrain equipment (i.e., pumps, motors, and gearing).
- Reading, writing, and math skills.
- Excellent ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, and electrical code NEC specifications to determine the layout of industrial electrical equipment installations. Also, Knowledgeable about NFPA 70E.
- Industrial experience working with 480 3-phase, 277 single-phase, 240, and 208 three-phase.
- Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 65 lbs.
- Ability to walk, stand, sit, squat, kneel, bend, climb, and crawl.
- Some Cutting, Welding, and Fabrication Skills.
- Ability to drive a forklift, work from scissor and snorkel lifts.
- Ability to use precision alignment tools, dial indicators, and refine methods in precision assembly.
- Basic ability to operate lathe, mill, and other tool room equipment.
- Ability to schedule and manage tasks according to the promised timeline.
- Ability to perform basic internet and literature research to identify parts for machine repair.
- Able to run a pipe threader and perform extensive plumbing jobs.
- Any electrical skills are a plus.
- Must have own tools.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 10 years of prior mechanical and electrical maintenance experience.
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Formal or informal Mechanic Program training, machine tool builder, or machinist.
