WHO’S THAT KNOCKING: HOW BUILDING PARTITIONS AND FLOORS (SHOULD) ATTENUATE SOUND
Thursday, October 31st – 10 AM CST
Host: Dean Kruchten
Acoustics in new and existing buildings are not only dictated by codes and standards, they are prerogatives of occupant comfort. This presentation first defines the terminology of the acoustic field and proceeds to describe the mechanics of sound transmission. We then look at various building sectors and how they are impacted by noise. For example, in healthcare acoustic concerns affect the level of patient care. In education, it’s been proven that children and adults learn better in quiet settings. And in office settings, how reduction of sound drives employee productivity. The course then discusses best practices for sound control and different methods for addressing sound infiltration.
