While it is possible, it is W. R. MEADOWS’ policy not to recommend or approve the addition. Due to the sheer number of colors and chemical compositions available, it is physically impossible for us to test and then guarantee the performance/appearance of our sealers, when a dye/pigment/tint is post-added (not during production).
If a customer would still like to add a dye/pigment/tint to one of our sealers, the following guidelines should be followed.
NOTE: The following are intended as guidelines only, and in no way guarantee the performance/appearance of the resulting “colored” sealer on concrete. W. R. MEADOWS is not liable for any of our sealers if they have been altered in any way.
For our solvent-based products (CS-309 series, SEAL CURE Series, DECRA-SEAL, OTC sealers, etc.), the dye/pigment/tint must be soluble in aromatic solvents.
For our water-based products (VOCOMPs, DECRA-SEAL W/B, etc.), the dye/pigment/tint must be water-soluble.
ALWAYS mix a small test batch to confirm the compatibility of the dye/pigment/tint with the sealer.
ALWAYS apply a small test section on the actual concrete slab that will be sealed, to confirm performance/appearance.
W. R. MEADOWS sealers are NOT paints!!! Adding a dye/pigment/tint will not offer “hiding” of the concrete slab – you will still be able to “see through” the sealer even though it now contains a color. If true/complete “hiding” is desired, a paint or coating designed specifically for concrete should be used.
