Maintenance Mechanic – Hampshire, IL

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a talented and reliable Maintenance Mechanic to join our successful maintenance team. In this position, the prime responsibility is to support production by preserving the condition and functionality of our production equipment. Further, to use expert skills for mechanical assembly and maintenance, along with light welding and fabrication in special projects and improvements. Requirements include but are not limited to extensive knowledge and experience with preventive maintenance, keeping inventory of spare parts, troubleshooting, repair and installation of pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, valves, bearings, pulleys, sprockets and other mechanical elements.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter requiring little to no supervision.  To excel in this position, you must be a problem-solver with exceptional attention to detail, sense of urgency, service orientation and organizational skills.  Able to work from drawings, verbal instructions, or sketches, and apply own ideas in design. Personal communication skills and ability to work with a variety of different personalities as a team, are a necessity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Prepare and set up machinery for scheduled production runs.
2. Communicate and collaborate closely with Production Supervisor to achieve set goals for the area.
3. Make preventive maintenance checks and inspections of assigned equipment, complete required paperwork, report findings to supervisor and follows up as needed.
4. Evaluate, dissemble, reassemble, repair, install new equipment, pumps, gearboxes, automation, etc.
5. Identify critical spare parts and keep appropriate inventory
6. Notify supervisor and plant manager of recurring equipment malfunctions, corrective action taken, and of quality problems, or supplies needed.
7. Perform other duties as assigned or needed

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Interface with all production departments, always with a service attitude in mind.
2. Interface with outside contractors to complete projects outside of normal maintenance requirements.
3. Participate in the “Mechanic on Call” Program

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Excellent hands-on mechanical skills
2. Solid understanding of powertrain equipment (i.e., pumps, motors, and gearing)
3. Reading, writing, and math skills
4. Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 65 lbs
5. Ability to walk, stand, sit, squat, kneel, bend, climb, and crawl
6. Some Cutting, Welding and Fabrication Skills.
7. Ability to drive a fork lift work off of scissor and snorkel lifts.
8. Ability to use precision alignment tools, dial indicators, refine methods in precision assembly.
9. Basic ability to operate lathe, mill and other tool room equipment
10. Ability to schedule and manage tasks according to promised timeline. Project management
11. Ability to perform basic internet and literature research to identify parts for machine repair
12. Able to run a pipe threader and perform extensive plumbing jobs.
13. Any electrical skills are a plus
14. Must have own tools

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Minimum 10 years prior mechanical maintenance experience
2. High School diploma or equivalent preferred
3. Formal or informal Mechanic Program training, machine tool builder, or machinist
