HYDROWRAP UNIVERSAL PRIMER is a fast-curing MMA-based primer used to prep concrete, metal, and wood surfaces before applying HYDROWRAP PUMA FLASHING. It’s a two-component system, mixed with HYDROWRAP CATALYST, and is engineered to bond well in a wide range of site conditions—including cold temperatures down to 14°F (-10°C).
This primer penetrates and seals both porous and non-porous substrates, helping ensure strong adhesion and system performance. It can typically be overcoated in just one hour and is VOC-compliant for use across North America. Ideal for jobs that demand speed and durability, HYDROWRAP UNIVERSAL PRIMER is a key component in W. R. Meadows’ high-performance waterproofing assemblies.

APPLICATION
This data sheet is not a standalone installation guide. HYDROWRAP UNIVERSAL PRIMER is used as part of the HYDROWRAP PUMA FLASHING system. Please follow all instructions for use as outlined in the HYDROWRAP PUMA FLASHING INSTALLATION GUIDELINE based on the specific project requirements.
Surface Preparation … Substrate, air, and material temperatures must be between 32° – 90° F (0° – 32.2° C). Concrete should be water cured and has attained a 3000 psi (20.7 MPa) minimum compressive strength. Moisture content in the concrete must be lower than 6% as measured using equipment, such as a Tramex CME 4 moisture meter. Excess moisture in the concrete can prevent the coating materials from performing as intended. Depending on the concrete construction and jobsite location, additional concrete testing may be required.
Metal surfaces must be prepared in conformance to SSPC-SP 10/NACE No. 2 Near White Blast Cleaning. The near-white metal blast-cleaned surface shall be free of visible oil, grease, dust, dirt, mill scale, rust, coating, oxides, corrosion products, and all other contaminates. After surface preparation, clean all metal surfaces with HYDROWRAP PUMA CLEANER.
Wood must be 5/8” (15.9 mm) exterior-grade plywood, “A”-side up and well fastened with ring shank nails or screws, with proper consideration given to joints and movement.
Mixing … Premix HYDROWRAP UNIVERSAL PRIMER for two minutes. Combine HYDROWRAP UNIVERSAL PRIMER thoroughly together with HYDROWRAP CATALYST in accordance with the temperature chart below for an additional 2 – 3 minutes.
| Temperature °F (°C) | Volume oz./gal. HYDROWRAP CATALYST |
| 40 (4.4) | add 10 volume oz. (0.2957 L) per gallon (3.78 L) |
| 50 (10) | add 8 volume oz. (0.2365 L) per gallon (3.78 L) |
| 60 (15.5) | add 6 volume oz.( 0.1774 L) per gallon (3.78 L) |
| 70 (21.1) | add 4 volume oz. (0.1182 L) per gallon (3.78 L) |
| 80 (26.6) | add 3 volume oz.( 0.0887 L) per gallon (3.78 L) |
| 90 (32.2) | add 2 volume oz. (0.0591 L) per gallon (3.78 L) |
Application Method … Apply HYDROWRAP UNIVERSAL PRIMER at a minimum of 100 ft.²/gal (2.45 m2/L) to yield 16 wet mils with a medium nap roller or brush to the entire area to be detailed with HYDROWRAP PUMA FLASHING. Installation less than 16 mils wet may cause improper curing.
Drying Time … Allow HYDROWRAP UNIVERSAL PRIMER to cure for a minimum of 60 minutes or until fully cured, prior to installation of HYDROWARP PUMA FLASHING.
LIMITATIONS/PRECAUTIONS
Product should be used outdoors only. maximum storage temperature is 77° F (25° C). Avoid direct contact as well as inhalation of vapors. Use appropriate personal protective equipment.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Highly flammable liquid and vapors. Avoid contact with sources of ignition. If OSHA PELs are exceeded, appropriate personal protective equipment should be utilized. Direct contact with eyes/skin may result in mild to moderate irritation. Skin sensitization may also occur with repeated exposures. Inhalation may result in irritation to the respiratory tract. Repeated/long-term exposures may result in permanent damage and be potentially fatal. Consult SDS for complete health and safety information.
