Planning on having a complete, properly-sealed, and void-free building envelope? Even if everything it perfectly planned and executed, your barrier will still end up with giant holes we more commonly refer to as doors and windows. This is where flashing becomes necessary to properly seal around these unavoidable barrier disruptions to prevent wood rot, mold, structural damage, or insect infestation.
Flashing is a thin layer of waterproofing that eliminates upward facing seams, crevices, gaps, or spaces where moisture could collect and seep past the barrier. Proper flashing ensures a seamless, shingled waterproofing surface that will not interfere with the force of gravity on moisture, allowing it to easily run down the side of the structure without lodging in an unwanted upward facing seam.
W. R. MEADOWS offers a high-quality, gun grade, low-odor, elastomeric, polyether, liquid-applied flashing and detailing membrane, AIR-SHIELD LIQUID FLASHING. AIR-SHIELD LIQUID FLASHING bonds to a wide variety of construction materials even in wet or damp conditions. This 100% solvent-free, non-sag flashing membrane is non-shrinking, can be painted within 24 hours after application, and is easy to apply. AIR-SHIELD LIQUID FLASHING provides an effective barrier without adding a significant additional bulk that may interfere with window and door installation, minimizing any potential damage that may come from product friction. AIR-SHIELD LIQUID FLASHING installation instructions are available to assist with application. There is also a printable PDF version offered.
Also available is W. R. MEADOWS’ recently released AIR-SHIELD ALUMINUM FLASHING. This flashing option is a roll-type, self-adhering flexible flashing membrane with an aluminum facer. When properly applied, AIR-SHIELD ALUMINUM FLASHING air, vapor, and liquid moisture barrier reduces risk of rot and mold development. Its aluminum faced film provides a strong adhesion and extended UV exposure for up to one year.
