SAFE-SEAL® 3405
High Performance, Cold-Applied, One-Component, Horizontal Crack and Joint Sealer
DESCRIPTION
SAFE-SEAL 3405 is a high performance, polymer-modified, asphalt emulsion horizontal joint and crack sealant. It is a one-component, self-leveling material that can easily be poured into openings 1/8″ up to 1″ wide. After full cure, the product will remain flexible at cold temperatures and will not flow at high temperatures.
USES
SAFE-SEAL 3405 is ideal for small-, medium-, or large-scale sealing projects on parking lots, highways, street maintenance, driveways, and airport aprons and runways. SAFE-SEAL 3405 should be used in any application where superior performance is a necessity or where a hot-applied product is either too dangerous or impractical. It offers excellent bonding properties, high resiliency, and resistance to weathering. It provides a soft, flexible sealer for either concrete or asphalt pavement repairs. This material remains pliable and will not track in warm weather or become brittle and crack in cold weather.

Surface and Joint Preparation…The joints and cracks to be sealed must be clean. Dust, dirt, and laitance should be removed prior to application. Proper routing should be slightly larger than existing crack/joint to ensure proper adhesion to sidewalls.
Asphalt Pavement and Maintenance Sealing … For ideal sealing with maximum effectiveness, it is suggested that cracks or joints should be routed out to provide a sealant reservoir 1/2″ (12.7 mm) wide with a minimum depth of 1/2″ (12.7 mm). This provides for a 1:1 width-to-depth ratio. To control and maintain the suggested joint depth and sealant usage, KOOL-ROD backer rod may be installed in the joint opening.
New Concrete Pavement Sealing … Designated joint width and depth is determined by the appropriate highway or pavement authority. Typical joint configuration should be 3/8″ (9.54 mm) wide with a minimum 1/2″ (12.7 mm) depth for an approximate 1:1 width-to-depth ratio. KOOL-ROD backer rod may be installed in the joint opening to control depth and sealant usage.
Application Method … SAFE-SEAL 3405 should be applied into the crack/joint, slightly overfilling. SAFE-SEAL 3405 may be poured from the container or a commercial sealing pot equipped with a narrow pouring spout and shutoff valve. Once applied, a follow-up should be done with a soft, rubber, U-shaped squeegee to form a wipe zone of approximately 3-4″ (76.2 – 101.6 mm) wide along the crack/joint and flush with the highway or pavement surface.

PRECAUTIONS
KEEP FROM FREEZING. Storage temperature should not exceed 90° F (32° C). Do not apply SAFE-SEAL 3405 if rainfall is forecast or imminent within 24 hours. Do not apply SAFE-SEAL 3405 when air, material, and surface temperatures are expected to fall below 50° F (10° C) within eight hours of completed application.
