Cold weather was not an issue for this system,” noted Flores. “Unlike cold-applied membranes, which would have struggled under these conditions, the hot pour system allowed us to maintain productivity despite the weather.”
Logistics posed a significant challenge for the project. “The amphitheater is set on the side of the foothills, which made it difficult to position our hot melt kettle and perform the work,” Flores recalled. The hot melt kettle, essential for heating and applying the membrane, required precise placement to operate effectively. The venue’s steep terrain and limited space demanded meticulous planning and coordination. Adding to the complexity, the team also had to work within the constraints of Red Rocks’ busy event schedule, which left only a narrow window for construction activities.
The Application Process
Installing a robust waterproofing system involved several critical steps, beginning with the removal of the existing membrane. This process was essential to ensure proper adhesion of the new materials. Once the surface was prepared, the team applied the HRM 714 membrane, embedding layers of reinforcing fabric to enhance strength and durability. Protection and drainage layers, including PC2R PROTECTION COURSE and MEL-DRAIN™ 9055, were then installed to safeguard the system from hydrostatic pressure and physical damage.
